Feature Article - Abortion by Keith A. Paul
What does God have to say about abortion? This is a question of importance in today's world. God addresses abortion in this manner.
God's Word says:
Deuteronomy 5:17 Thou shalt not kill.
Psalms 127:3 Behold, children are a heritage from the LORD, the fruit of the womb a reward.
Psalms 113:9 He gives the barren woman a home, making her the joyous mother of children. Praise the LORD!
The Bible states Thou shalt not kill.
The Bible also states, children are God's heritage and are His reward.
Therefore, it is wrong to take the life of an unborn child. That prerogative belongs to the Lord only. Those who commit abortion are guilty before the Lord and likewise those who perform abortions are guilty before the Lord.
If you are married and conception occurs.. then do not abort this unborn child. This sin would lead to shame, regret and condemnation that you will carry for many years. If you have already had an abortion(s) then you need to repent and seek the forgiveness of God who is merciful to all that come to Him as sinners.
If you have committed adultery (outside of marriage) and conception has occurred then do not abort this unborn child. This sin would also lead to shame, regret and condemnation that you will carry for many years. Repent and seek the forgiveness of God. He will not turn away from anyone that comes before Him in humble repentance to seek His mercy.
The story of King David's adultery with Bathsheba gives us God's perspective on this important issue. In this story of David, the sin of adultery was compounded by the sin of murder. As King, he arranged for the death of Bathsheba's husband to solve the predicament he found himself. God in this story sends one of His prophets to confront David and lead him back to repentance, forgiveness and restoration. However, the prophet said that because David was the leader of the nation, God's judgement would take the child from them as a consequence of his sin. This is similar to the case of someone who is illicitly pregnant and desires an abortion. Don't follow up your sin of adultery with the sin of murder. Let me point out that God is in charge and there are no hopeless situations with him. Have the baby. God can redeem the situation, if you seek Him.
If you were raped and conception occurred... why would you add to your trauma an even greater trauma by killing that child within you? The Lord will stand with you, provide for you and bless you as you raise this child for His glory.
If you are reading through this and you did have an abortion in the past, then let me assure that if you repent before the Lord and seek His forgiveness then He will forgive you. There are several key people in the Bible who were guilty of murder. Saul of Tarsus... later known as St. Paul.. before his conversion consented to the murder of Stephen (Acts 7:58) and yet after his conversion he became the Apostle to the Gentiles. Remember, that not only was Paul a murderer, but so was Moses(Exodus 2) and King David (2 Samuel Chapters 11, 12. Yet God forgave them and they became some of the greatest of God's men ever known.
The forgiveness that the Blood of Jesus provides removes sin, guilt and condemnation.
If you are ready to bring this matter to the Lord today then pray the following prayer. Mean it in your heart and God will minister to you.
Take this opportunity to pray now:
Father in Heaven, I come to You. Thank You for sending Jesus who paid for my sins through His shed Blood on the cross. Father, I have sinned against You. I repent and turn away from my sin before You today. Please forgive me my sin of adultery. Forgive me for my sin of abortion. Forgive me for all my sins against you. I place my trust in You and receive your forgiveness now. Give me grace and courage to face all that must be faced. Thank You Father for not dealing with me according to my transgressions. Thank You for accepting me into renewed relationship with You and for forgiving me. I want to know You. Please walk forward with me and help me in every area of my life. I pray this prayer.. in Jesus' Name.. Amen.
In conclusion:
I would recommend that you find counsel and further prayer from a Pastor's wife. If you need an unwed Mother's (Christian)Group then contact one, if available in your area. There are many resources and people that are willing to help you through this season of your life.
