How to minister Deliverance to Others: A general guide.

Section One:

For those seeking greater freedom, deliverance and restoration

on a self help basis with God.

Scriptural Background:

Acts 10:38 - Jesus came to heal all those oppressed by the devil.

John 8:31 So Jesus said to those Jews who had believed in him, "If you continue in my word, you are really my disciples.
John 8:32 And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."
John 8:33 They replied to him, "We are Abraham's descendants and have never been slaves to anybody. So how can you say, 'You will be set free'?"
John 8:34 Jesus answered them, "Truly, truly I tell you that everyone who commits sin is a slave of sin.
John 8:35 The slave does not remain in the household forever, but the son does remain forever.
John 8:36 So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed!"

How do we determine if Deliverance is necessary?

The need for deliverance is established by the inability to be free from a bondage: for example; mental, emotional, physical or spiritual normally associated with demonic activity. The problem could be in the form of compulsive impulses, over indulgence, perverted behavior or other unacceptable life styles.

A general or specific inability to ever repent of sin and receive Christ in salvation or to repent of back sliding may also be part of your condition. If this is the case, then you should seek the help of someone else for deliverance ministry.

The Bible states that our warfare is with the forces of evil in Ephesians 6:12. Our armour is truth, righteousness, preparation to witness to the Gospel, faith, and salvation. Our weapon is the Word of God. The battle is engaged through prayer according to Ephesians 6:14 -18. Our authority and power is from Jesus Himself who release this power and authority in Mark 16:17, Matthew 10:1, 7, Luke 10:19 and Acts 1:8.

It is my opinion that 75 % of people needing deliverance will be set free through total repentance. Repentance from sin removes the entry way or stronghold through which demons can oppress them. Others will need help in this process of repentance so they can come into restoration and transformation.

Jesus came to heal those oppressed of the devil according to Acts 10:38. This indicates that some diseases and infirmities are caused directly by demonic oppression. These types can be discerned by the Holy Spirit during ministry and deliverance removes the curse of that sickness.

Full repentance alone brings most deliverance. So many people are opening the doors to the enemy in our societies today. Many openings are happening at vulnerable young ages. Examples of this:
* through the large numbers of sexual abuses
* through mental, emotional and physical abuse
* through rebellious behavior
* through resentment.
Salvation is for all, so everyone can receive help.

When deliverance is necessary, then go back to the times when the door was opened to the enemy. Sometimes this can be through the sins of the forefathers. Prayers of deliverance are in order. If you do not know when the door was opened or what the problem really is, then the gift of discernment identifies this problem or entrance so ministry can take place. Seek the Lord or the help of others at this point.

What we do is find where the entrance has been given to the devil. We then command the influence and the spirit out. We close the door to Satan by applying the Blood of Jesus over that person and the sin that opened the door. The parts of deliverance are confessing, renouncing and taking authority over that bondage or spirit.

Christians obviously cannot be demon possessed because the Holy Spirit is active in their lives. However, Christians can have bondage and the influence of the enemy. For example:
* people with homosexual, lesbian, transsexual weaknesses
* people with drives of extreme lust and immorality
* people with extreme depressions
* people with occult backgrounds or memberships involving secret oaths or covenants.

Deliverance requires:

* Desire to be free.
* Surrendering the will to God and His purposes.
* Repentance (turning away from sinful practices)
* Discernment by the one doing the ministering.

Deliverance for those in church?

There are three major strongholds holding back the Body of Christ.

Sin is that which we do and this can be easily forgiven, if confessed before God and repented from. Sin is not yet a stronghold.

Iniquity is a sin that has become a stronghold. It can be forgiven, but it takes deep repentance and deliverance from bondage. (See Isaiah 53:5 - which ministers to the problem of iniquity)

Three Major strongholds oppressing the Body of Christ:

The answer to all three are found in 2 Corinthians 10:3- 5.
2 Cor 10:3 For though we walk in the flesh, we are not waging war according to the flesh.
2 Cor 10:4 For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds.
2 Cor 10:5 We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ,

Critical Spirit:

A critical attitude can become an addiction and make way for a “critical spirit.”
Hebrews 12:15 – root of bitterness whereby many are defiled.
James 3: 14 -18:
Jas 3:14 But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast and be false to the truth.
Jas 3:15 This is not the wisdom that comes down from above, but is earthly, non spiritual, demonic.
Jas 3:16 For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every vile practice.
Jas 3:17 But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere.
Jas 3:18 And a harvest of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.

Complacent Spirit:

This means: to be pleased, especially with oneself or one's merits, advantages, situation, etc., often without awareness of some potential danger or defect; self-satisfied:
The Laodicean Church – Revelation 3:14 22
Galatians 6:9, 1 Timothy 4:1, 2 Thessalonians 2:2, Luke 18:8

Conservative Spirit:

Conservative means to hold back and be cautious. It is based in human pride,self sufficiency and fear.
Romans 10:11
Mark 8:38
Luke 12: 27 – 35
We are never to hold back from God but to embrace all He offers to do in our lives.

There are specific prayers for Deliverance on our website that will be helpful to those who are able to confess,
renounce and repent of the sins that have opened the door to the enemy. Please visit this link Deliverance.

Section Two:

How to minister Deliverance to Others: A general guide.

Many in today's society are in need of deliverance and Christ is able to deliver them as they come humbly before him with repentant, responsive heart.

Many of God's Sons and Daughters will be used by the Holy Spirit to bring others into deliverance and salvation in the coming days. This section is intended to generally help you minister to those who are ready and wanting deliverance. The authority of Jesus is available to you as a Believer and the power of the Holy Spirit will confirm His work through you.

Biblical Statements:

Hebrews 2:14 Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same things, that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil,
Hebrews 2:15 and deliver all those who through fear of death were subject to lifelong slavery.

Mar 16:16 Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.
Mar 16:17 And these signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will cast out demons; they will speak in new tongues;
Mar 16:18 they will pick up serpents with their hands; and if they drink any deadly poison, it will not hurt them; they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will recover.'

Psalm 91:3 For he will deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the deadly pestilence.

Counsel:

Ask someone to agree with you and stand with you while ministering deliverance. There are always exceptions to this when spontaneous deliverance occurs, but try to arrange to have someone with you as a prayer partner. Make sure this partner is a Born Again, Spirit baptized Christian.

Special Considerations

Formal Deliverance Sessions via Appointments:

If you are representing a church, a ministry or some other organization then having a signed Ministry Consent form on record is necessary. This consent form which gives consent by the candidate for deliverance ministry should be signed by the candidate and two witnesses. If the person is a minor under the age of 18 years of age then parental consent should be given by at least one of the parents. Having this Consent Form and ministry agreement in place avoids the possibility of civil law suits coming against the ministry you are representing.
Ministry Consent Form

Spontaneous Deliverance by the Holy Spirit in a public meeting:

Those responding to an invitation or call to repentance and deliverance in public services are giving their consent to deliverance ministry when they respond, so it is highly unlikely that legal liability would be raised if the deliverance is done openly with the consent of the participants. Taking the deliverance participants into another setting, room or office; however would likely necessitate a signed Consent Form from each individual.

Generally, in public meetings participants or those responding are either lead in a public prayer of repentance and deliverance or this occurs between the participant and the prayer altar Workers individually within the public meeting.

When you minister:

Seek the Lord in behalf of the person needing deliverance, expecting discernment to be given you. You need to know how to pray and minister to the person.

If repentance is clearly needed and the person is unable to repent, deliverance is needed first. Bring them back to the need for repentance once a certain measure of freedom is obtained. Take authority in the Name of Jesus, claiming God's protection for you and others in the vicinity. Bind the demons revealed and unrevealed. Command them to loose the person and come out. Command them to go to the place God assigns them to.

You may at this point sense in your spirit to praise and worship the Lord as this releases His power into the ministry atmosphere.

Encourage the person to seek fellowship with Spirit filled people. Bible study is important. A renewed mind will transform the person. (see Romans 12:2)

They need to dispose of or get rid of any and all occult related books, material, music and other items connected to cults, the occult or other demonic teachings and practices. Burning them in an appropriate place and container (fire place etc) is the best method of disposal.

Refer the person to a Spirit filled ministry for further help if the deliverance ministry occurred separate from this resource.

Prayer example:

In agreement with the participant and / or the prayer partner with you bind Satan and his demons in Jesus' Name. Command the person to be loosed. Speak directly to the demon... sickness, infirmity etc. Be firm in your authority.

Minister praise to God until victory comes, the burden has lifted and Satan has fled.

Much Love.. Keith and LaQueta Paul
